A child with ADHD-type inattention is often fighting a classroom signal-to-noise ratio near zero. Attune is a functional listening assessment for audiologists and SLPs — an ecological questionnaire and a calibrated digits-in-noise test that describe listening function and route to the right referral. It does not diagnose APD or ADHD.
The traditional gatekeeper for this population — the central auditory processing disorder (APD) test battery — is a contested construct the recent literature is actively dismantling. The field is converging on a functional model instead: ecological questionnaires, speech-in-noise performance, and measured response to a real classroom accommodation.
Attune's assessment engine pairs an ecological listening questionnaire with an adaptive digits-in-noise test, run through a calibration protocol — a headphone allowlist, a reference-tone loudness match, and a quiet-room check — before any score counts. The output is a functional description and a set of non-exclusive referral options, never a diagnosis of APD or ADHD.
